Navigating Costa Rica’s insurance requirements can feel overwhelming, so here’s a clear breakdown of what’s included, what’s required, and how to get extra peace of mind.
Liability Protection (Included)
• What it covers: Up to $20,000 for damage to third-party property (e.g., another vehicle or fence) | Up to $100,000 for third-party injury or death
• Your benefit: 0% deductible (instead of the standard 20%) up to $100,000 in damages | Automatically applied when you book through La Selectica
Note: This coverage is mandatory under Costa Rican law. You’ll see it pre-checked in your booking form.
Car Protection (Required)
• What it covers: Collision damage (dings, dents, rollovers) | Theft (complete or partial)
• How to waive it: Many premium credit cards include rental-car collision coverage. If yours does, simply bring a printed letter from your card issuer confirming Costa Rica coverage, and Adobe will remove the Car Protection fee.
• Pro tip: Verify that the letter specifies “rental car coverage in Costa Rica” and lists the coverage limits.
Car Protection is also required by law. You can either pay Adobe’s daily rate or show proof of credit-card insurance.
Total Protection (Optional Add-On)
For travelers who want maximum security, Total Protection sits on top of Liability and Car Protection, offering:
