Jungle & Volcano
Soak in natural hot springs, hike to hidden waterfalls, visit sloth sanctuaries, or zipline through misty cloud forests.
Ocean & Coastline
Sail to tucked-away beaches, snorkel vibrant reefs, book a surf lesson (private if you’d like), or just relax with your toes in the sand and nowhere to be.
Land & Culture
Horseback rides with valley views, artisan coffee tastings, local markets, or a chef-led dinner tucked into the jungle — these are the stories you’ll bring home.

Costa Rica’s microclimates mean there’s always something magical to experience. Here’s a season-by-season guide to help you pick the perfect travel window:
Dry Season (December – April)
Weather: Consistent sunshine, low humidity, and minimal rain. An ideal time for beach days and volcano treks.
Why Go: Crystal-clear Pacific sunsets, optimal conditions for zip-lining and canopy tours
Consider: Higher rates at resorts and more crowds (especially over Christmas & Easter), by early April the climate can be very dry.
Shoulder Seasons (May & November)
Weather: Transition months. Early May sees the first showers; November rains taper off into drier breaks.
Why Go: Fewer tourists and lower accommodation prices, lush green landscapes without full wet-season deluge
Consider: Rainstorms are usually afternoon-only; mornings remain sunny.
Green Season (June – October)
Weather: Frequent rains, especially afternoons and evenings. Mornings are often clear. The rain gets worse as the season goes on. Expect some wash out days in September and October (but the Caribbean Coast should be sunny and perfect)
Why Go: Waterfalls at peak flow and vibrant jungle colors, best surf on many Pacific breaks (e.g., Pavones, Dominical), many hotels offer off-season discounts of 20–40 %
Consider: Some remote roads turn muddy and impassible. Some tourism companies shut down in September and October due to lack of demand.

Whats On in October?
Caribbean Sunshine Window: October is prime time for great weather on the Caribbean coast. Think relatively calm seas, clear snorkeling in Cahuita, and sunny beach days. It’s the perfect month to escape the Pacific rains.
Peak Green Season on the Pacific: October brings some of the heaviest downpours of the year on the Pacific side. Plan mornings for activities, take a siesta in the afternoons (when rains tend to be at their heaviest), and consider a 4×4.
Seasonal Closures & Maintenance: Tourism slows in many Pacific regions this month. Some boutique hotels, beach clubs, and adventure operators close for staff holidays, renovations, or deep cleaning.
Sea Turtle Nesting: October is a great month for turtle lovers. Green turtles are still nesting in Tortuguero (but it is definitely the tail end of that) and the olive ridley arribadas pick up in Ostional, particularly around the new moon. Sometimes you can witness thousands of turtles coming ashore at once. It’s amazing!
